We’ve rounded up some classics as well as some ones lesser heard of but all with some connection to the countryside, farming or equine life.
Phillipa - Lover or friend of Horses. The feminine form of Philip and a traditional English name with rich royal history and of course the name of the accomplished equestrian Pippa Funnell! Can also be shortened to Pip.
Briarly - an old English name meaning ‘clearing in the briars’. We think it evokes beauty, nature and strength.
Barley - one of our customers named their daughter this and it’s always stuck with me. Pretty but rustic and of course coming from the beautiful Barley in the fields.
Winter - A lesser chosen season but beautiful nevertheless. It’s giving beautiful snow covered countryside and The Holiday style cottages. Winter-Rose as a full name is also beautiful and adds an English element.
Bay - this gentle sounding name has associations with the bay laurel tree but really we liked the link with the colour of horse that’s red/brown. It also denotes an inlet of the sea where the land curves inward and has the Old English connection, from beġ meaning "berry", making it a country name through and through.

Georgia - the feminine form of George meaning agriculture or ‘farmer’.

Sylvie - feminine form of Sylvan and means a person from the woods. It’s elegant, pretty and has its ‘roots’ (excuse the pun) in nature.
Clover - with symbolic Irish ties to good luck and fortune as well as the meadow plant we can’t think of a better combination behind a name.
Rhiannon - derived from Welsh mythology with Rhiannon being a mythical figure associated with horses.
Mavis - a feminine name for ‘song thrush’. It has a whimsical vintage feel to it.
Blair - a Scottish name meaning meadow, plain or open field - all things up our street so we’re here for this one!
Roan / Roanie - Roan as in the horse colour. This is a unisex name sounding similar to Rowan or Rowena. Also perfect for red heads as it derived from the Irish surname Ruadhán which means red haired.
Juniper - this is a cheerful botanical name and ideal for any gin lovers too!
Hallie - A version of the male Henry meaning Dweller at the meadow. It is a lovely take on the traditional ‘Hayley’ which means hay clearing.
Rose - Rose has a rich heritage for us with the Yorks and the Lancaster history - the red and the white roses of Yorkshire.
